My Experience working with a Global Team
The world has shrunk, and global exposure is not a concept that stays in the far lands these days. But let me explain my experience of working and collaborating with a global team that is actively involved in the backend operations of the social media world.
I have worked in organizations that are still ruling the social media space. Both of these companies are producing top-notch products for their users.
Bytedance
People in the active space know Bytedance is the parent company of the short video application TikTok and the vernacular social media application Helo (popular in India before its ban). I have worked with a team that put together one of their products. This is where I got my first global teamwork exposure, where my seniors were from outside India.
We cross-functioned with teams that had different native languages, provided cultural exchange, and built culture-relevant annual calendars. Explaining and approving our vernacular language themes, traditions, and concepts was part of our task. Some of the concepts were relevant even outside the vanity of our geographic boundaries, so having been supported by a global team made me take Indianized local concepts onto world-level forums.
I managed a regional social media page by posting regular content catering to regional audiences and contributing to its growth from a 1K community to a 100K community. This was possible because we worked as a team to provide content that was relevant to reach a wider audience around the world.
We perform tasks as per our clients' requirements. One of our major clients' most successful products is a video content-oriented social media platform. Our part is to validate content, produce data-backed research articles with supporting tools, stay culturally relevant, and operate trend-based topics and content.
I also got the opportunity to make use of my story-telling and script-writing abilities for some of our tasks here. Performing deep research and presenting those inferences in a more engaging format always excites me, 1021 Creative and the clients gave me that opportunity to present my outputs in front of a global team.
On a personal note, this global exposure has had a little impact on my personality. Exploring more such opportunities would always be on my bucket list. This reminds me of a Tamil poet who wrote ‘yaadhum oore yaavarum kelir’ and this motto will be practised and should be practised.
